How do you like to write? With music blaring on your iPod? In a quiet corner? Actually, that's not where I'm going with this (although I admit I don't write and listen to music at the same time). I'm talking about something a little more fundamental. Do you like to write in a traditional narrative format? Read more. Why outsourced doumentation fails? It is worth wondering why outsourcing documentation fails to bring dividends. Documentation projects are outsourced amidst much opposition from with in the company. There will on-site employees always unhappy with the very notion of outsourcing "their" work to other locations. The reasons for this opposition can be many. People will be waiting at every opportunity to hit out at the "absurd" drama enacted in the name of documentation. Caught in the quagmire of quality politics are the hapless technical writers at the offshore centre. Has your company switched solely to online documentation? - See my blog for more please!By ellemorrow at 2009-03-20 08:47 | Best Practices | business communications | business communications | business writing | communicators | content development | content management | develop training materials | development | documentation | manuals | Online | Online Training | technical communication | technical editing | Writing General | XML | login or register to post comments
Documentation typesHello Everyone!!! I'm a Tech Comm student and I was wondering if you could help me out with some research that I'm doing for a project. 1) How many of you have switched from print documentation to online documentation (pdf, xml, etc)? Do you still use both kinds? 2) Why did you/your company switch? 3) How has this cut down on costs, time, effort, etc? 4) Have clients said anything about the switch? If so, what? Have there been any that have requested print only? If you could answer these questions and anything else you might feel is relevant, please do so! Thank you! Adventures of a New Technical WriterAt the beginning of March, I asked for some general advice about a new job I landed: writing procedures and other documentation for a new factory that is gearing up to start production. Now that the dust has settled somewhat, I thought I might provide a followup for anyone who is interested. In this installment, I'll just lay out some of the background details. First, my background: before taking this job, I never did any technical writing. I have mostly worked in print publishing, specifically educational books for children. So, there's been a lot to learn and in a short period of time.
